Andrea Fraser (USA)

Exhibition (single-channel-versie), 2002
Video-projectie, 20 min. loop

Catalogustekst:
Andrea Fraser's Exhibition exists both as single-channel and as a double-channel video projection. Both juxtapose two related yet very different images: Fraser dancing the samba in a carnival parade in Rio the Janeiro, clad in a flamboyant costume, and Fraser dancing in front of a black wall, dressed in the same costume. Crowded scenes full of life and music alternate with the solo scenes. The projection is life-size, thus emphasising both the physicality of the performer and the abrupt abstraction that takes place between carnival and black box, between site and nonsite, between participation and distance.
